Bergen
Third port of The Tall Ships’ Races 2008
9–12 August 2008
Bergen is one of the world’s most beautiful natural harbours, with the city running steeply up from the water to crown hills and mountainsides. Bergen is a city of long maritime history, history still legible in the streets and squares and in the lives and culture of its inhabitants: A city of wooden houses, of museums and markets, a city with a unique sense of place.
“Bergen is Neptune’s gift to humanity” according to Time magazine. National Geographic Magazine has our fjords as one of the 10 most important things to see in the world.
Bergen was the best host port in 2001. We intend to surpass ourselves in 2008 with a full programme of activities for all tastes and ages. The ships will be berthed in our inner harbour in the midst of the city’s everyday life and in walking distance from almost everything, including our town mountains.
In 2008 Bergen will again be an experience of a lifetime for the crews, a fabulous city with endless opportunities. Year after year, visitors from all over the world have just one complaint when they are leaving: that their stay was too short.
