Klaipeda
Finishing port of The Tall Ships’ Races 2009
Friday 31st July - Monday 3rd August
Klaipėda
city with a population of 190,000 is the northernmost ice-free port in the
Baltic and the only one in Lithuania. Klaipėda has been an
important commercial centre since ancient times: as early as the
13th century, having crossed the Baltic Sea, merchants from the
northern and southern countries visited here.

Klaipėda, like the entire coast of the Baltic Sea in Lithuania,
boasts excellent white sand beaches. The Seaside Regional Park,
close to the north of the city has a beautiful landscape and unique
nature.
Lithuanians and foreigners
call Lithuania the Amber Land. Possibly because of the small pieces
of amber one can find on the Lithuanian seashore.
