22 Square Metre | Vigilant | Patriot
Patriot
The Udell class was developed by the Chicago Yacht Club as a one-design 22 square metre. The boat was designed by Knud Reimers in 1953 in hopes of reducing the galloping prices of new boats and the built at the respected Kungsörs Boatyard.
Eleven boats were built. Patriot is number U5. The boats are absolutely gorgeous, with long overhangs and low freeboard one would associate with the square meters. Of course, beyond looks they are very fast.
Built in 1961, with the Yard number U-5,(S-333) for Byron Morril of Chicago and originally named Gladys she was renamed Valkyrie in 1964 and Patriot in 2003.
