VigilantVigilant at Cremyll - Uffa Fox Design 22 square metre

Uffa Fox designed and built Vigilant for himself in 1930.

"After two spins to air her new sails" he loaded her with supplies and set sail for Sweden on June 30th 1930.

"When the class was first adopted by the IYRU,  writer's in our yachting papers said that twenty-twos would not be man enough for the Solent seas but Vigilant's cruise to Sweden and back shows they were only dribbling down their bibs."  - Uffa Fox 1936

Vigilant - Uffa FoxUffa wrote "The 22 square metre class is about the same length on the line and overall as the 6 metre class but has only half the sail area and half the displacement, the result being easily handled and lively boats. The rule forcing sleeping berths below makes them ideal for young men, for they can live aboard and so save the bother, uncertainty and expense of living in a hotel ashore. The same cabin makes a place, in which an elderly owner can keep a dry change of clothes, have lunch and generally be more comfortable than he would be in a 6 metre."
