Sailing
on Huff
of Arklow
is a unique experience; a vintage fast cruising
yacht so well designed she virtually sails herself. Her cut-away
after deck makes her very exhilarating on the wind and is a
wonderful lounging area when sailing more upright. We are very fortunate to
have such an outstanding choice of sailing on our doorstep, the sheltered waters of the Hamoaeze leading to
the Lhyner and the Tamar.
These rivers are navigable for many miles inland. Heading South through the Narrows to the wide expanse of Plymouth Sound is a large area of sea partially protected by the breakwater. Once past the breakwater we are into the open sea proper. We can either head west into Cornwall, towards Fowey, Megavissey or Falmouth, or East into Devon, towards Salcombe, Dartmouth or Torbay.
On
most courses you will be met by the skipper at the
Mayflower Marina
who will introduce you to Huff and give you an initial
safety brief. You will then go for a short sail before going to her
mooring at Cremyll. Your skipper will then complete the safety brief
including an element of planning, outlining the weather pattern for
your time on board and your probable programme. Cremyll is one of
the many opportunities you will get during your time on board for a
run ashore and a visit
to a good pub or restaurant – in this case the Edgecumbe Arms.
